With the official pre-sale of 2024 Topps Series 2 underway, the community eagerly awaits the unveiling of the official checklist and odds on ChasingMajors.com. However, there's a sense apprehension amongst collectors, as expectations for the roster of rookie cards run high.
Let's take a quick peek at the players we anticipate (and the reasons why) to feature in 2024 Topps Series 2 and who the likely holdovers are for 2024 Topps Update.
Unofficial 2024 Topps Series 2 Rookies

Yoshinobu Yamamoto # TBD (Photo Confirmed)
Jung Hoo Lee # TBD
Pete Crow-Armstong # TBD (Photo Confirmed)
Junior Caminero # TBD (Photo Confirmed)
Wilyer Abreu # TBD
Masyn Winn # TBD
The reason we anticipate these players to be in Series 2 is straightforward: they either had pre-rookie cards (PRC) featured in 2024 Topps Series 1, and/or they've already been issued official rookie cards in products such as 2024 Topps Heritage and 2024 Topps Chrome Black. Therefore its a no-brainer that we’re getting flagship rookie cards for these players.
Who we assume these rookies are holdover for Topps Update?
Jared Jones
Jackson Merrill
Jackson Chourio
Wyatt Langford
Colt Keith
Jackson Holliday
Paul Skenes
Christian Scott
Andy Pages
Why do we anticipate these players to feature in 2024 Topps Update? Well, these players all secured spots on their teams' opening day rosters or received early-season call-ups.
However, they haven't been officially recognized with rookie cards in 2024 Heritage and Topps Chrome Black yet. Nonetheless, they've all been issued 2024 Topps Now cards bearing the RC logo, suggesting that official rookie cards of them are in the works for 2024.
While these are educated guesses, we’re predicting that Topps Series 2 will include cards of Jackson Merrill, Jackson Chourio, Wyatt Langford, and Colt Keith. These cards will likely bear RC logos but will be part of insert sets and possibly autograph subsets. They'll be considered PRC as they won't have base cards.
While we hope Topps avoids SSP base releases similar to what we saw with Julio Rodriguez and Bobby Witt, we won't be surprised if that trend continues.
